Communion

Note to you as a parent:

The act of communion is one that can be really confusing for children. I can remember when I was a boy, wondering why we were eating Jesus’ body and drinking his blood. It is important that we, as adults, do our best to communicate to our children what communion is and why we partake in it. This Wednesday night we are going to be engaging in a communion service where I will do my best to bring the Holy Sacrament of the Eucharist down to a personal and age appropriate level for your children. It will be your responsibility to follow up with your children with any questions, comments, or concerns through out the week. So, as I have been trying to do, here are some resources and info to help you in your most precious of tasks:

“What is The Eucharist?”

Eucharist is a fancy word for the sacrament of Communion. Communion is the observance of a tradition the Jesus himself started in the upper room in Jerusalem close to 2,000 years ago while observing the Jewish holiday of Passover. Traditionally, wine and bread are used as symbols representing the body and blood of Jesus that was given as a sacrifice for all creation when Jesus died on the cross. This is typically a somber time of reflection and reverence toward Jesus for all the we have been given. Christians all over the world participate in this tradition as a time to remember the sacrifice that Jesus made for all of us and to remember to honor that sacrifice nobly with our lives.
