It's that time of year again... the auction is upon us. Everything kicks off this Friday (Feb 24th) at 6:00pm. This year's auction is a "dessert only" event... so be sure to grab something to eat prior to the event! We've got lots and lots of items for sale this year and it all goes to support the youth programs... specifically the Hondurus Missions trip that we are taking this coming summer. We are taking 28 people to Hondurus for 9 days... and this auction will help us get there so we can serve the people of Honduras by helping build a new church... and witnessing to the children in one of their remote villages. We are excited to see what God will do!

Hey everyone...
I trust that your holiday season was a success. Gifts purchased... gifts received... lots of food... relatives you haven't seen in a while.
The new year is upon us and we are about to embark on a new year with new things in store. We had a great family BBQ on Jan 1st in The Basement. Lots of families and friends showed up. We are planning to make this a monthly thing... First Sunday Family BBQ's. So the first Sunday of every month we will have a family event in The Basement. The next one is Superbowl Sunday! Let's plan on it.
The Student Auction is coming up on February 24th. That's a little earlier than year's past... so it's time to get going on gathering together your auction items. More to come in the next week or so.
It's also time to say goodbye to a couple of people. David Stark has been volunteering as a leader for the last year and a half. He is heading to Florida for an acting/modeling training school. He feels that God is calling him to this area and is stepping out in faith to see what God has for him. We have appreciated David's leadership with our guys while he has been with us.
My assistant, Mary Weeks, is also leaving for further training. She has felt the Lord calling her to spend time studying His word and will be in biblical training with the New Tribes organization. Mary has been an important part of our youth ministry team for many years. Her absence will be felt on many different levels. We wish her well and hope that she is able to use the next few months preparing for whatever God has planned for her life.

Well... it has arrived. That Christmas season that we all know and love. We've got some big events this month for HSM.
December 9th is the "Sounds Like Christmas" family event at the church. This will be a night of worship and Christmas music performed by students, the worship band, and our church choir! It is followed by a dessert social in the new gym. Tickets (available at the church office weekdays or at the Welcome center on Sundays) are $2 for the performance and donations suggested (and encouraged) for the dessert social. This is a fundraiser for the Student Ministries Missions Trip to Honduras in the summer of 2012. We appreciate everyone who can support our event.
December 17th is the 3rd Annual "HSM Sorta Formal Dessert & Gift Exchange". This is a great chance to invite your friends and dress up... and bring a lame gift to pawn off to someone else. Should be a great night! We kick it off at 6pm!
Our last fundraiser of the year is a Christmas Tree Recycling program. Drop your tree off at the church parking lot on Dec. 31 between 9am-3pm (suggested donation of $5). We will be "green" with your brown tree! Sign up on this site for us to pick your tree up (suggested donation of $8). Either way you will be helping our students spread the word of Christ to the people of Honduras in the summer of 2012!

We've had a great fall so far... and the weather is showing that winter is on it's way. That means we have several things planned for HSM! Check on the HSM calendar for the most up-to-date list of activities!
We are trying something new this fall. It is my desire to make discipleship groups available to everyone that wants to be in one. We have launched a "discipleship group" system on Sunday mornings that will accommodate everyone. What are discipleship groups? They are groups that meet on Sunday during the 9:30am hour that will help hold students accountable for Bible reading, prayer, and holy living. Each week students will be asked to pre-read a chapter out of the book of Acts... and come with questions and comments from their study. Each Sunday morning we will meet together as a large group for worship, a short teaching on Acts... and then transition to discipleship groups for the remainder of the morning. Those students who don't wish to be involved in discipleship groups will remain in the Basement with me and we will have our own discussion group. It's going to be an awesome time on Sunday mornings! I encourage everyone to be involved.

Turns out that August was the last month of Sumer again this year. We had a great Missions Trip to Spokane, epic time at Triangle Lake, and are now ready for the rain to start again. School is starting and that means football, volleyball, marching band, and homework! ARRRRG! We are looking forward to a great Fall Retreat at Camp Cascade. It's a bargain this year at $55. Be sure to invite a friend (friends rate is $45 for the camp)!

Summer has arrived... and along with it comes all the fun that can be had for HSM! We've got some big things coming up... the main thing being the Missions Trip to the Spokane area. We will be helping rehab a volunteer-based Bible camp just outside Spokane. It will be a bunch of hard work... but it will also be a great way to bless the people who use the camp and help spread the gospel along the way. Our trip will end with a visit to Silverwood Theme Park in Idaho. AWESOME!
There are lots of new things on the calendar of events for the next three months. Check back often for updates and added events.

Hey... isn't April the month that it's supposed to rain a lot? Let's hope we've got most of the rain behind us! As we being this new month... I've updated the events on the front page to show what's coming up this month. Lots of stuff to do. Be sure you don't miss a thing!
Our Theology Under 30 group is going to be especially good this month. We will be asking which "celebrations" Christians are supposed to observe. Is Easter ok to celebrate... even though it's not really the day of his resurrection? What about Christmas? Should we be paying attention to the Jewish celebrations that Jesus grew up observing? It should be a good discussion!
The basketball league concludes this month. You still have a chance to make it out to a few games if you haven't seen any this year!
I've also been working on the Mission Trip for this summer. Be sure to mark out June 26-30 on your calendars. We will be traveling to Spokane this year! More detail to come as things are nailed down. The high school Triangle Lake trip this summer is July 25-27. Be sure to mark that down too!
As always, let me know if you have any questions!

March brings lots of fun stuff for "The Kick"... that's our new name for high school ministries at the Naz. We invite you to come "Kick it" with us this next month. Lots of events going on... you choose the ones that fit your schedule.
We've also got some new digs! The Kick meets in The Basement every Sunday and Wednesday. The new Middle School room is called "The Attic". Our new snack shack in the hallway is called "The Pantry". There are plenty of good things for sale every time we meet. Many items under $1.
Hey... did you hear we have new shirts? They are $6 each and are available in several different colors. For sale in "The Pantry" on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings. Wear your shirt to school and tell people about our group.

Well... the 2010 summer is in the books... and it was a good one. I'm looking forward to what the fall has to offer our HSM group at Salem First Naz. We've got some great new events coming up.
Student Sundays - The last Sunday of every month this year will be a Student Sunday. That means from start to finish... the Sunday morning HSM group will be lead by students and only students. Our first Student Sunday was August 29th... and it was AWESOME. The next one is scheduled for September 25th. This is going to be one of the highlights of our time together this year!
Sunday Jamz - Every other Sunday we are gathering those who have musical interests... and letting them Jam. We are meeting in the Cave from 12:30-2:30pm and will be learning worship songs that we sing on Sunday mornings. This will be a great time to be able learn new stuff... and have fun doing it.
Wednesday Night Chisel Groups - We are trying something new this year with our Chisel Groups. The groups will be smaller and we will have the chance to really get to know each other well. I'm excited to see how God will use our friendships to strengthen our relationships with Him. Plan on coming out on Wednesday nights for a great time with God!
The fall is here... and it's gonna be fun! Come on out... we'd love to see you here.

Hey,
Well... we wait all year for summer... and now we have already dipped into August. Hang on... dare I say school will be starting soon???
July was a great month for HSM. The month began with the conclusion of the Missions Trip to Boise, ID where we worked directly with the Boise Rescue Mission, Mission Aviation Fellowship, Crossroads Community Church, and Northwest Nazarene University on several service projects in and around the Boise/Nampa area. We did some hard work... and also got to serve the Boise community in several different ways. We also spent some of our time away looking into how God has spiritually gifted each of us for service. It was truly a great trip.
July also saw our HSM trip to Triangle Lake. We took 32 students and 16 adults to the lake for three days of fun in the sun. God supplied us with great boats and weather for our trip! I'm always reminded of how big God is when the sun sets... it gets real dark... and the stars come out above the lake. What a great reminder of the God that we love and serve.
Let's make it a good August and a great end to the summer!

We came... saw the lake... conquered the lake... it will never be the same!
On Monday, July 19th, forty-seven HS students, leaders and boat drivers set out for three days of fun at Triangle Lake. We camped in tents, ate smores around the fire, wake-boarded, knee-boarded, tubed, rafted, played volleyball, competed in team competitions, and generally had a great time. It was an awesome trip!
Next Wednesday night (the 28th) we are back at the church for a week. We'll start around 7:00pm.
Hope everyone's summer is going well...

Hey, Hey, Hey...
We had a great trip to Boise, ID last week! We took 26 HS students and 8 adult leaders and worked in and around the Boise area. Monday was at the Boise Rescue Mission. Each of us got to serve meals to the homeless people. We also sorted and boxed several pallets of food as well as completed some painting projects around the mission. Our group surprised everyone with how much work they completed. On Tuesday we worked in and around the Nampa area at three different locations (Crossroads Community Church, Mission Aviation Fellowship Headquarters, and Northwest Nazarene University). The three locations kept us busy all day. On Wednesday we got to have a fun day at the Roaring Springs water park. We had dinner at Cracker Barrel and got to visit a local Cold Stone for dessert.
While on the trip we focused on our spiritual gifts. The students took a spiritual gifts assessment and we talked about how God gives each of us at least one gift when we become believers... and He expects us to use them for His glory. We also heard from several of the kids throughout the week as they prepared and presented their own devotionals. It was really a great week.
This week we have another "Wednesday Night on the Farm" (6:30-9:30pm) If you need a ride... the van leaves the church at 7:05pm and arrives back by 8:30pm. The Lunchmobile rolls again on Thursday at 11:00am! Another great week in HSM!!!

Hey... Y'all...
Thanks to everyone for such a great auction last Friday night. We had over 150 people there for dinner and fun. Your generosity brought in over $12,000 this year. That money will be put to good use over the next 12 months to the glory of God's kingdom. If you have any feedback or comments about how we could make the auction better next year... please let me know. We are always interested in constructive feedback.
It's almost summer... and that means we have some changes coming down the road. First is the move out of the annex. May 23 will be our last Sunday in the Annex... and May 26th is the last Wednesday night out there. We will have a little ceremony on the 26th to say goodbye to our good friend... the Annex.
Monday, May 31st is Memorial Day and it is the last day we have to make sure everything is out of the annex. If anyone is around on that Monday and would like to help... we will need some help.
So... to where are we moving? We will be converting the Lower Rickard... into... "The Cave". More to come on that.
Parent Care Meeting coming up on May 23rd from 4-6pm in the annex. If you are parents of middle school or high school students... please make sure you plan on attending this. We will be discussing sex ed and our attempt to encourage open and honest talks with your children re: some sensitive issues. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Auction... auction... auction. Did I mention the auction was coming up? I just wanted to remind all of you that the Auction is coming up on May 7th. This is our major fundraiser that produces about 1/2 of our budget for the year. Students have a chance to earn $100 on their student accounts by doing the following things... 1. Collect $100 worth of new items or gift certificates to be sold at the auction. 2. Sell 4 ticket to the Auction Dinner 3. Work the night of the auction.
Auction Dinner tickets are $20 this year ($15 of that cost will be receipted as a charitable donation). Ticket are available Mon-Wed from Mary Weeks at the church. Send her an email (mweeks@salemnaz.org) or call the church office to get through to her.
I'm looking forward to having a great auction again this year! Thanks in advance for everything you do to help this come together for us.

Hey... I hope everything is going well for all of you this week.
Our first ever "Website Easter Egg Hunt" begins Thursday at 5:00pm! Will you be the first one to find the golden egg? Big (well... sorta big) Prizes awarded to the first dozen people who find it! Good luck!
Next Sunday, Easter, is a little different for us in HSM. We are going to have a special Easter service in the annex for HS students at 11:00am (not the normal 9:15 time). If your parents want you to sit with them during the service... that's totally fine... but if you can make it... it's going to be a fun time. Looking forward to seeing you there.
We are taking a trip to Northwest Nazarene University from April 8-10 for any students who would like to get a preview of their campus, dorm life, and classes. This is open to any HS students. Cost is $20 for food & gas... NNU is hosting for free! Let me know if you have any interest in going!
Also... just another reminder that our Auction is coming up real soon (May 7th). If you haven't taken time to track down donations yet... it's time to get moving on that. We have donation letters available at the church if you need them. Call Pastor Greg with any questions.

Hey... how's it going? Well, by the end of the week we will have made it through Genesis and Exodus in The Big Dig and then... comes Leviticus! This will be fun. Nothing I like better than reading through a rule book. But actually this book is very interesting if you know what your looking at. The New Testament (Heb 10:1) says that what we read in Leviticus is somehow a "shadow" of Jesus Christ himself. Not sure how all that plays out... but we will take a look at it over the next couple of weeks. This Sunday we will also be signing new Big Dig contracts for the month of February. Be thinking about what level will fit your busy texting and Face-booking schedules this next month. Thanks to everyone for diving in this first month of the year. Can you believe that we have 1/12th of the Bible already down...? PG
